Gibraltor, MI (September 6, 2018)

The PCA Tennis team went downriver again today and got a well-earned tie against the powerful Gibraltor – Carlson JV team, 4-4.
“This one feels like a win”, exclaimed Head Coach, Brett Manning. “I think if we were able to have our #1 Singles player healthy (Justin Parks), we would have taken them.”
PCA had an opportunity to win the match outright, but the #2 doubles team of Gloria Ravuri and Quinn McLaren lost a third set tiebreaker. They had dropped the first set but battled back to square the match with a 6-4 win in the second. The Carlson team squeaked out a 10-7 win in the third set.
The Eagles got strong showings from singles players Matt Pierce (#2), Rachel Costello (#3) and Daniel Krivacs (#4) who all had straight-set victories.
The #1 doubles team of Stephen Miera and Chris Bilko earned the team’s fourth point with a well-played straight-set win.
The Carlson JV squad was led by several seniors and came into the match filled with confidence. PCA was coming off a solid win at Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central and was undefeated in dual matches.
The pre-match focus was on battling for every point and to play without fear. Mission accomplished – all players fought hard and worked to get the ball back, “one more time”.
Although the #3 and #4 doubles teams lost, the “Fab Freshmen”, Caleb Cameron and Tim Perumalla at #3 and Evan Fischer and Rebecca Nokku at #4, received valuable match experience. These four remain the future of PCA tennis, along with the up and coming middle schoolers.
