The top #10 ranked Notre Dame Prep Fighting Irish made quick work of PCA in a co-ed tennis match played in Pontiac today. NDP won all six flights that were played and added two defaulted spots for an 8-0 victory.
Four of the Academy’s players were unable to play due to various reasons.
The eight players that took the courts were overmatched but remained resilient.
Rachel Costello got the call to play at the #1 spot and battled her NDP opponent for two sets. She held a 3-2 lead in the second set before falling 6-3.
Daniel Krivacs played well at #2, but, lost in straight sets. After the match Krivacs said, “My forehand let me down. I’d been hitting it well the past two matches – if I hit another into the net at practice, I’m going to run laps.”
Rounding out the singles spots were freshmen Caleb Cameron at #3 and Tim Perumalla at #4. Both played well and hustled throughout their matches.
At #1 doubles, juniors Gloria Ravuri and Chris Bilko won games in both sets, ultimately losing 6-1, 6-3.
Moving up two spots to the #2 doubles position were freshmen Rebecca Nokku and Evan Fischer. They were overmatched and lost in straight sets.
The loss drops PCA’s record to 3-3-1, with three more matches left before the October 11 regional tournament at Ann Arbor Greenhills.
The Eagles will fly into action again on Friday when they travel to Woodhaven. The matches are slated for 4:30.
