PCA Edges Woodhaven
(WOODHAVEN, MI) September 21, 2018 – The Eagles snapped their two-match losing streak with a 5-3 win over Woodhaven’s JV team today. PCA improved to 4-3-1 on the season.
The Purple and Gold got wins from #2 singles Matt Pierce, #4 Daniel Krivacs in three sets, #1 doubles Stephen Miera and Quinn McLaren, #2 doubles Gloria Ravuri and Chris Bilko and #3 doubles Caleb Cameron and Tim Perumalla.
On this blustery day, the Academy players made the necessary adjustments to earn the win. The elements wreaked havoc on all shots, especially the service ball toss. Matt Pierce struggled early in his match but found the groove to win in straight sets. “I tried to get to the net and stay aggressive. It paid off”, he said.
#3 singles player, Rachel Costello lost in a third-set tie-breaker. “The wind was bad out there. I played poorly – but I’m glad the team got the W.”
#1 singles, Justin Parks, dealing with injuries, was able to play and competed quite well. Unfortunately for the Eagles, his opponent seemed to run down every ball and had a solid return of serve.
The freshmen #4 doubles team of Evan Fischer and Rebecca Nokku lost in straight sets – but they had several long rallies and played well.
PCA will host Pontiac Notre Dame Prep on Monday at the PARC (Central Middle School). The matches begin at 4:30.
