For the first time in school history, the Plymouth Christian Academy men’s and women’s cross country teams came in FIRST PLACE in their Regional final race, earning an automatic bid as a team to the State Finals. In order to qualify to compete in the State finals on Saturday, November 3rd at Michigan International Speedway, an athlete must finish in the top 15 spots or the team finishes in first, second or third place.
The Men’s team, led by a first place finish by Senior Luke Pohl, earned 57 points with three runners (Pohl, Eric Moore 12th and Quinn McLaren 15th) in the top 15 and 6 in the top 20 (Caleb Godin 17th, Spencer Mistele 18th, and Nathan Sutrick 19th). Freshman Chukwubuikem Anwunah also finished with a great run. All seven varsity runners will be competing on Saturday at States. Plymouth Christian men’s team is currently ranked 6th in the State of Michigan for Division 4 and Luke Pohl is ranked second overall.
Not to be outdone, the Women’s team earned the first Regional championship in school history, absolutely crushing the competition with 29 points by having all five scoring athletes finish in the top 15 (Sienna Ruiter 2nd, Emily Cameron 3rd, Nicole Reinhart 5th, Sarah Reinhart 8th, Joy Chamberlain 15th), with Eva Warmbier 24th and Kelli Groen 25th close behind. Only 7 runners are allowed to compete in the varsity race, but PCA is blessed with 10 amazing girl runners. Isabel Mossel, Ella Godin and Tatyana Carnes all competed in the Open Race for alternates and came away with outstanding times. These three will serve as alternates at the State meet. Plymouth Christian’s women’s team is currently ranked 5th in the State of Michigan for Division 4.
We encourage our PCA family to come cheer for our men and women cross country teams THIS SATURDAY, November 3rd. The men will run at 9:30AM and the women at 10:50AM with awards at 12:15PM. The top 30 runners earn All State honors. Admission is $8 and includes parking. Tickets can be purchased on site or online at www.mhsaa.com. (No dogs or bikes are allowed). The race will be held at Michigan International Speedway (12626 US-12, Brooklyn, Michigan).
