SOUTHFIELD, MI (January 8, 2019) – The roster wasn’t complete tonight, but the effort and result was as Plymouth Christian downed host Southfield Christian, 32-16.
The PCA Eagles were playing without Co-Captain, Harlee Collins who was home with the flu and had a few others who were nursing injuries, but those who took the court gelled both offensively and defensively, and after a dominating 17-2 first quarter, PCA never looked back.
The Purple and Gold mixed up their defenses and applied pressure to the young SCS squad. The Blue and White were down by 15 before they scored their first basket. PCA shot the ball well early – Anna Fernandez hit a three and made a tough layup. Ella Godin had two put backs and the entire team moved the ball well.
PCA outscored Southfield, 8-6 to take a 25-8 lead into halftime.
Anna Fernandez led PCA with 13 points at the break. Ella Godin had 10.
Pacing Southfield at the half was Maddie Kragt with four.
The third quarter was a defensive battle, with both teams missing shots. PCA led after three, 28-10.
The fourth quarter saw both teams empty their bench as SC never mounted a threat. The PCA Eagles were outscored 6-4 but held on for the 32-16 victory.
Plymouth Christian was led by Anna Fernandez with 16 points. Ella Godin had 11, Ariela Boboc, 3 and Eva Warmbier, who got her first start of the season, with 2.
Boboc and Godin led the way on the boards with 11 rebounds each.
Sarah Fernandes had six assists and Anna Fernandez had 8 steals. Godin had three steals, as well. And Fernandes and Rachel Costello chipped in with two thefts each.
PCA has now won back to back games to bump their record to 4-3. They will be in action on Friday at home against Novi Christian as part of a “Biggie Friday”. Tip time is 7pm.
