CANTON, MI (February 26, 2019) – 3 three-pointers to start the 3rd quarter, 2 by Harlee Collins and 1 by Anna Fernandez propelled the Plymouth Christian Eagles to a 41-29 win over visiting Ann Arbor Greenhills in a non-conference game played tonight at PCA.
Collins finished 3 of 6 from distance and chipped in with three free throws to lead the Eagle guards in scoring.
Greenhills battled in the first half, holding the Eagles to 13 points in the first and only 10 in the second as the visiting Gyphons got 9 points from junior, Sabine Boutros and 4 from senior Maya Behrend.
The Eagles countered with strong inside play from center/forward, Ariela Boboc. She had 7 points in the first half and made her presence known on the defensive end with blocks and rebounds. The sophomore finished with a double-double, 13 points and 13 rebounds.
At the half, PCA led, 23-17. Both teams were tough defensively and got their share of rebounds. PCA did some solid work on the offensive glass, with several second chance points.
The third quarter belonged to the purple and gold, as they outscored the visitors, 14-4. The Eagles got valuable minutes from Eva Warmbier, Emma Heussner and Rachel Costello who snagged rebounds and pushed the ball in transition.
Greenhills fought back in the fourth, led by Moira Cummings and Sabine Boutros, but baskets from Boboc and Fernandez put the game out of reach.
The Eagles pushed their record to 12-6 with the 41-29 win. Greenhills falls to 2-13.
The Gryphons were led by Sabine Boutros with 11, Moira Cummings with 7 and Georgina Branch with 6.
Pacing the Eagles:
Ariela Boboc had 13 points, 13 rebounds, 6 blocks and 3 steals.
Harlee Collins had 12 points, 3 assists and a steal.
Anna Fernandez finished with 11 points, 4 steals, 3 rebounds and 2 assists.
Emma Heussner had 3 rebounds, to go with 1 block and 1 steal.
Eva Warmbier had 2 points, 7 rebounds and 2 steals.
Isabel Mossel was a calming force in the back court and had 3 steals and 2 rebounds.
Sarah Fernandes had 2 points, 3 steals, 2 assists and 1 rebound.
Rachel Costello had 1 point and 2 rebounds.
The Eagles were playing short handed in the game, as junior forward Ella Godin missed the contest with a lower body injury.
PCA hits the road for their final regular season match-up when they travel to Adrian College to take on defending state champion and #1 ranked, Adrian Lenawee Christian on Thursday. Game time is scheduled for 6pm.
