Eagles News · PCA Athletes Making the Most of Covid-19 Hiatus

Our daily lives were all affected here at PCA and the rest of the country when Governors around the country started cancelling school in an effort to slow down the contagious Covid-19 virus that is currently effecting everyone in the world. MHSAA followed shortly after Governor Whitmer’s mandate for Michigan schools, putting a hold on all winter playoffs and spring sports until at least April 6th. Currently our students are continuing to learn online with our help of our amazing staff. Athletes are doing the same thing to stay prepared for a potential return to play. Following CDC’s guideline for social distancing,  Winter and Spring coaches are encouraging athletes to stay physically active and mentally prepared to get back into the swing of things.

We asked a few of our students how they are currently handling this unprecedented time and here are their responses:

How are you feeling about the current break because of Covid-19?

I really don’t like the fact that we are on this break because I want to be at school with my friends and the going to practice right after, that was my routine and I enjoyed that. Now that I’m at home all the time I get bored really fast.

What are you doing to stay mentally and physically prepared for the season while on break?

Well mentally I have been reading Gods word to keep me thinking positive and keep my faith strong during this break. Physically I have been running and dribbling for soccer, I have been lifting weights for shotput and I have even played a couple rounds of golf to keep my skills sharp while this break is preventing team practices.

What are you most looking for if we are able to come back to school/sports on April 6th?

I am looking forward to have team practices again and just be with all my friends once we get back to school.

How are you feeling about the current break because of Covid-19?

I honestly have mixed feelings about it. I like having a lot of free time, but hate that I cant play Baseball or hangout with friends.

What are you doing to stay mentally and physically prepared for the season while on break?

I am throwing with my brother and hitting off the tee. I am also watching highlights on youtube, but none of it is like actually having a team practice or playing in games.

What are you most looking for if we are able to come back to school/sports on April 6th?

I am looking forward to playing a baseball game. Of course last year we ended on a loss, and I have just had that thought of loss in the back of my head and I just want to redeem myself. All that to say, I am really looking forward to playing games.

How are you feeling about the current break because of Covid-19?

As soon as I found out that we would not being have school for a month I was upset. As weird as it may sound I love being at school and seeing my friends. I feel like I am missing out on my senior year. I graduate in less than 3 months and I was really going to make the most out of my last 3 months but now I have less time to make the best memories with my best friends.

What are you doing to stay mentally and physically prepared for the season while on break?

During break I have been eating cleaner and running 2 miles every day. I try to do ball work also, even if it is just small touches on the ball. Before the corona break the entire soccer team was running together and we want to keep up with our fitness level. We are keeping each other accountable every day to make sure we are ready for our first game. We want to dominate the season this year.

What are you most looking for if we are able to come back to school/sports on April 6th?

I am excited to be able to play again. This is my last season and I want to take advantage of every minute I get to play. I am thankful that our season was not canceled all together

How are you feeling about the current break because of Covid-19?

I’m really bored most of the time during this break, usually I have at least one sport going on so it’s a big change for me.

What are you doing to stay mentally and physically prepared for the season while on break?
I’m trying to get some sort of exercise every day, whether that’s lifting weights, playing basketball outside, or going for a run to try and stay in shape and stay ready to play.
What are you most looking for if we are able to come back to school/sports on April 6th?
I’m definitely looking forward to baseball season if we are able to come back and play, I think we should have a really good team this year. I’m also hoping to somehow finish out the basketball playoffs.

How are you feeling about the current break because of Covid-19?

I’m feeling pretty sad about the break because it is my last year. I miss having a routine and seeing my friends and of course playing softball. But I also know that I can’t be too sad about it because everyone in the world is struggling right now and it isn’t just me, so I have to make the best of it.

What are you doing to stay mentally and physically prepared for the season while on break?

I’m trying to stay mentally prepared for the season by doing the homework that our coaches have assigned and running through plays. It helps me so that when we play, I’ll know where to be for every situation. I’ve been staying physically prepared for the season by going for walks every day and eating well! I have all the time in the world to make good breakfast and lunch so it’s been fun to try new things every day!

What are you most looking for if we are able to come back to school/sports on April 6th.

I am most looking forward to coming back to my last season. I want to be a leader but I am also excited to learn from the other girls and coaches, on and off the field. I love center field and I am so excited to get back out there!
