AUBURN HILLS, MI (Feb. 9, 2021) The Eagles stumbled out of the gate on Tuesday night as they visited host school Oakland Christian in their first MIAC Blue Division matchup.
The game play seemed strained on the offensive end which featured turnovers and inconsistent shooting against Oakland’s active zone.
A long awaited three from Anna Fernandez provided some relief for the Eagles who trailed 3-12 early on in the contest. Morganne Houk and Ariela Boboc each added two free throws to close the quarter, and PCA trailed 7-12 as the first quarter ended.
The Eagles defense stiffened as the offense continued to sputter. While holding the Lancers to eight second quarter points; Fernandez, Boboc, and Allison Pilat converted one free throw and four baskets in the paint helping PCA regain their sense of balance, despite trailing 16-20 at the half.
The Eagles came alive in the third scoring 18 points while holding their opponent to just 4.
“Our defensive pressure was key in creating offensive chances in transition,” said Coach Windle.
The Eagles finished the 3rd quarter up 34-24 and in control of the game. Houk scored 11 in the quarter which included 2 threes and three free throws after being fouled from distance.
“I was pleased with energy that came from our bench tonight. New players played an important role in our tonight,” explained Windle.
The Eagles outscored the Lancers 14-9 in the fourth quarter to take the win by a final score of 48-33.
The Eagles improve to 2-0 and will host Detroit Country Day on Friday, Feb. 12 at 6:30PM.
