Eagles News · Eagles crush Clinton in District Opener

Senior Jack Crawford celebrates with his teammates after a goal.

By: Rachel Costello (Sophomore)

16 October 2017

PCA’s Boys Soccer team scored early and often, as they destroyed Clinton, 6-1.  Tenth grade defender, Aiden Andres, thought the game went according to plan. “We knew it was going to be a light game,” he said. Clinton didn’t put up much of a fight.

“They didn’t play well. They could push and shove, though,” Andres added. As the game continued, the score of the Eagles soared, ending the half at 4 – 0.

The Eagles went into halftime with a big lead, they wanted to keep the pressure on. Clinton picked up their aggressive play, but PCA responded. Nevin Ruiter (12), said “In games like this, emotions can run high. We have to focus on all of our district games. Wednesday will be tough.”

With the outcome decided, the coaching staff inserted freshman, Isaac Cantrell to defend the net. This allowed Junior, Jeremy Collins to rest and get some time as a field player not having the restrictions of a goalie.

Jack Crawford scored a highlight reel goal with under three minutes to play in the game. His free kick soared over the goalie’s shoulder and found the net, just under the crossbar.

The chippiness continued until the final horn, when one of Clinton’s players received a yellow card when he stepped in front of the ball during a free kick.

PCA advanced to the next round of districts, where they will play familiar foe, Ann Arbor Greenhills.  Nevin Ruiter, always the veteran leader added, “We came out with the win today, but we will need to do better for our next game.”

PCA will host Greenhills on Wednesday at 3pm.

Coed Varsity Tennis · Competition a must for Tennis Team

October 12, 2017 By: Izzy Nunez (Senior)

It was a very disappointing day when the PCA Varsity Tennis team learned they would not be competing at Regionals this year.  Traditionally, athletes would take the day off for the matches, followed by a day of bonding after a hard-fought season.

Something different happened this year. Captain and Senior, Allie Kwang elaborated, “This year we’re unable to go to regionals due to the testing that’s going on for the underclassmen…so we are having our own tournament within our team. Our team will be split in half and we will go head to head, each player playing both singles and doubles! It’s going to be very exciting and a riveting event.”

Boy was it! Competition runs deep in the Eagle’s veins. The two sides had fun, but also gave it all they had for bragging rights. In the end, the gold team prevailed, led by their captain Matthew Pierce (11).

When asked about the win, Matt explained, “It feels good…it was a good season and I’m glad we could end it on a high note.”

When asked about the white team’s fall to their challengers, the gold team Senior Zachary Racho captain of the white team had no comment.

In the end, it’s not about winning or losing,  it’s about the team. The PCA Varsity Tennis team is a close-knit group that wins, loses, cries, and laughs as a team.

Tradition was broken this fall, but a solution was found, and fun was had.

Multiple Teams · Lady Eagles defeat Southfield Christian: Share the Win with an Unlikely Fan

The Plymouth Christian Girls Volleyball team traveled to Southfield Christian where they defeated SCS 3-1 in a well played match. The Lady Eagles remain undefeated in the conference which clinched their 3rd conference championship in the last 4 years.

The conference championship was not on the minds of the girls though once the match was finished. After the match, they went right to Leia Vanmeter, a 3rd grader enrolled at Franklin Road Christian School. Leia became a big fan of the team while watching her older sister play in the same tournament that the Eagles had competed in earlier in the season. During the tournament she befriended Senior, Abigail Pray and Sophomore Caitlin Warnshuis.

According to her mom, she wanted so badly to attend the next time Plymouth Christian would play against her school! She was looking forward to seeing her friends again…but due to being sick, she was not able to attend the game at Franklin Road on October 5th.

Leia was determined to see her friends again despite missing the game at Franklin Road. So, she attended their very next conference game at Southfield Christian! After the game the whole team talked with her, took pictures with her, and even signed a ball for her. A very special moment for both the Varsity team and for Leia.

Philippians 2:1-2(NIV)

Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind.

Boys Middle School Soccer, Boys Varsity Soccer · Soccer Defeats Oakland Christian on Senior Night

Coming into the match, Oakland Christian was a hold of first place in the conference with just a tie or win needed to clinch and PCA standing in there way…Well the Eagles had other plans as they came out with their last conference game of the season at home and in front of a good crowd of family and friends, waiting to celebrate our 6 seniors for Senior Night.

The first strike in the 2-0 victory came from Gavin Goerke who ended up shooting the eventual game winner off of a take away, where he punched the ball into the top right corner of the net.

Manny Ravuri sealed the Eagle victory with a cool and collected shot of a centering pass from an eagle teammate at the top of the 18 yard box.

The Eagles finished conference play with a 4-3-1 record which was good enough to be tied for 3rd place in the 5 team upper division of the MIAC.

Special Thank You to our Seniors!!
