Plymouth Christian built a four-run lead in the fifth inning and then held off Oakland Christian’s charge for a 9-8 victory on Tuesday. There was plenty of action on the base paths as PCA collected seven hits and Oakland Christian had ten.
Oakland Christian got things moving in the first inning. Mackenzie Saylor hit a solo homer. While the Eagles Varsity knotted the game up at one in the bottom of the first inning when Tatyana Carnes singled.
The Eagles pulled away for good with three runs in the third inning. Megan Bell homered on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring three runs. PCA then scored four runs in the fourth inning. Kelli Groen, Isabel Mossel, and Ella Godin each had RBIs in the big inning.
Oakland Christian scored four runs in the fifth inning. Bell earned the victory in the pitcher’s circle for PCA. She went seven innings, allowing eight runs on ten hits and striking out five. Vaught took the loss for Oakland Christian. She surrendered nine runs on seven hits over six innings, striking out two.
The Eagles tallied seven hits in the game. Mossel and Ava McInerney had multiple hits for Plymouth Christian. Mossel led PCA with two stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with five stolen bases.
PCA finds their next action on Friday in a doubleheader vs. Greenhills. Game time is 4pm.
